Pathology Protocols

Why do we use pathology?

Veterinary pathology is regularly used in livestock and zoo animals alike and is increasingly more important in scientific research and drug discovery.  As wildlife contraception is still an emerging field, it is of vital importance to carry out pathology to advance contraceptive research and allow the EAZA RMG to provide current evidence-based guidelines.

We would strongly like to encourage all institutions to help build contraceptive research by sending any reproductive tract pathology reports to contraception@chesterzoo.org.

This data will provide valuable information regarding contraception and possible side effects, especially as for many species, data is deficient. This knowledge will improve the service the EAZA RMG provides, enabling us to produce better evidence-based guidelines.

All data remain completely anonymous.
